Tell him that the library is full of books that he can borrow for a read and even bring back home with him. You can show him the last cover of a book he has that has the names of other books by the same author printed on it. He might be more excited then. You can even read a story to him that explains the visit of a little child to the library, he will be motivated for it.

Library is a public place and it is must that you abide by the rules of the place. So brief your child about the behaviors expected from him and the ones are not acceptable. Make a checklist of it and repeat these to him before you leave, when you reach and on return for future visits. The first time you take your kid to the library, you must help him explore the place. Kids are very curious and being at a new place makes them want to practically scan every inch of it. So be patient with them and take him around for a little tour. Once he gets comfortable with the surroundings, he will be able to manage it himself. From the book racks to the tables to the play area, make him acquainted with everything and help him catch the habit of reading!
