Not Kissing the Baby on His Lips.
Have you ever heard of Mononucleosis? It is a disease of the herpes family. And your baby can easily fall prey to it. The disease can be transmitted through saliva from one person to another and is therefore commonly called the ‘kissing disease.’ The young child does not have a strong immune system to fight against such diseases, and so getting infected with the virus may prove to be fetal.You now know why it would be advisable for you to stop any individual, who is infected with the disease, from coming close to your baby.
Also, for the same reason that babies don’t have well developed immunity but adults do, at times the symptoms of the disease might not show in adults. It might not even be as dangerous too them. But for the infant it is. It is therefore in the best interests of you and your baby, that kisses on his mouth are avoided by one and all at all times. Apart from the Mononucleosis disease, there are a lot many infections the baby might catch due to the germs.
The medical world regards this action as the easiest mode of transferring an infection to the child. Showing affection to kids should thus be limited to gentle caresses and pecks on cheeks or forehead, or their hands or feet. Parents should themselves practice not giving their baby constant kisses on the face, least of all on the lips; and should make others follow the same.
