How to Care for Baby Clothes?

The truth is that babies grow really fast and they quickly out-grow their clothes and hence they do not last very long. But this does not necessarily mean that you should not take proper care of the clothes.

The foremost reason that proper and correct care for the baby’s clothing should be done is to ensure that the clothes of an infant are free of particles and substances that may irritate their delicate skin. These days in every house you will find that chemicals are used as cleaning agents for many articles and due to this, the skin has become very sensitive, especially that of children. Some children are allergic to certain things and it the responsibility of the parents to protect them from such elements that may cause the children harm.

One practice that may be adopted as a remedy to this problem is to use the least amount of chemicals when cleaning the house and clothes. It is perfectly acceptable to use just a single multi-purpose detergent that will work to clean the whole household and a multi-purpose clothes detergent. If you use a detergent that is slightly mild, the clothes will be equally clean as they have always been after washing, without the powerful residue of strong chemicals. This will protect the delicate skin of your baby. If you look in the market you will also find some detergents that are made specifically for cleaning baby clothes, but in all honesty these are no different than the other cleaning agents. It is all just a marketing gimmick used to exploit the good intention of parents. Please do not use fabric softeners as that leaves a strong fragrance from chemicals that stay in the clothes for very long in the clothes.

Once you have washed the clothes properly, you should dry the clothes as per the instructions in the wash-care label. The best method to dry your children’s clothes is to hang them on regular clothesline. The clothes should be hung in a place that does not have pollen because pollen can cause an allergic reaction to your baby. Once the clothes are completely dry you can put them away. If you hang the clothes, they will retain their shape and form and they will also last longer.

Make sure that you wash all the clothes before your child wears them even if it is new you should wash it before your baby wears it. Because new clothes can be stiff and can cause irritation. If the clothes have been handed down to you by your relative or friends, you should wash it as dust mites or other such things may gather on clothes that were put away in a storage.
