The Bell Listening Exercise

The-Bell-Listening-Exercise

This is a fun exercise that works well when performed with a group. Just ring a bell and ask the kids to focus on the sound and vibration. Ask them to raise their hands when they stop hearing the sound and continue to hear what other sounds they can hear now. After about a minute ask them to share their experiences, they will be excited while increasing their focus, how cool!

Breathing Buddies

Breathing Buddies

Make the kids lie down and hand them each a soft toy to keep on their bellies. Now tell them to breathe silently for a minute and notice how the toy responds to it, the way it moves with their breath. Simultaneously ask them to imagine that their thoughts are flowing in bubbles. They will enjoy this exercise especially in the presence of their little breathing buddy!

Smell And Tell

Smell And Tell

Ask the kids to close their eyes first and then pass little fragrant things to them like lavender, orange peel, sandalwood etc. The kids will have to just smell the things and figure out what they are. In this way they will be focusing all their energy on the smell and will deviate from negative thoughts. This game is ideal for relieving anxiety!

Feeling The Touch

Feeling-The-Touch

This game is similar to the previous one as it allows the child to focus on just one of his senses. The kids are given one thing each to hold while they close their eyes. You can give them soft toys, ball, feather or even stones to touch. They will have to explain what the thing feels like to their partners and then they both will switch places. This way they will get insight of the other person’s perception and learn to isolate senses!

Heartbeat Analysis

This does not literally involve a medical analysis of the heartbeat but rather a fun way to get your focus back! Make the kids do some physical activity like jumping or running for a few minutes and then sit down. Tell them to close their eyes, put their hand on the chest and try to feel their heartbeat and breath. After a few minutes ask them what all they felt about their bodies and share it with the others.

These are little fun games through which kids can regain their focus and mindfulness. They will have increased positive feelings and thoughts in them without any serious steps. Help them move towards an alert body and mind and making it look like a child’s play!
