Teach Your Pre-Schooler The Alphabets

Teach Pre-Schooler

When you think that your pre-schooler is ready start learning the alphabets, sing an alphabet song. Children pick-up things really quickly and they learn songs easily. If you notice they will sing along to songs on the television or the ones that are played on the radio. They don’t really need to be taught the lyrics of the songs word for word; they learn them on their own.

BabyCouture would also suggest that you paste an alphabet frieze on a wall so that when you sing the alphabets out loud you can point to the letters. This is a great trick to familiarize your child with the alphabets. If you don’t want to buy a frieze, you can make one yourself. Ask your little one to join in so that this way he will learn a few letters from this activity alone.

The other thing you can do is play some letter games such as “Find the Letter”. All you have to do is draw a few letters as you would for a frieze and cut them out. Have the little angel decorate it with glitter. Now when it’s done, hide the letters around the room but make sure that they can easily see it. The game will be to find the letter that you call out, for example you might say something like “Find the letter ‘A’”. When he or she finds the letter, celebrate by breaking into a little dance or giving a loud cheer of encouragement. Play this game throughout the day with different letters by putting some of the letters to sleep on a pillow and tell your kid that the letter is taking a little nap.

After you have played “Find the Letter” with all the alphabets, give the game a bit of a twist by asking your child to look for the alphabet that makes the sound “buh”, which of course is B. This is a great way for children to associate the letters with the sounds.

The other game that is great for children once they are able to figure out the sounds is “I Spy”. To make the game a little more fun and different, don’t say the letter but rather the sound. For example “I spy with my little eye something beginning with ‘bhu’” and your child can look for things like ball, bicycle etc

The last thing we would suggest is to buy a colorful book with large alphabets and lots of fun pictures that clearly shows all the alphabets. Encourage your child to repeat all the letters. But ensure that you are not putting too much pressure on your pre-schooler. Make learning fun for them.
