Tips for Care of Warm Winter Clothes

Winter Clothes for Children

It is important that you take proper care of your children’s winter clothes and warm baby clothes just as you would for their delicate summer clothes. The important thing that people often overlook is to actually read the wash-care label of the clothes. Ignoring this will surely ruin the clothes or reduce its lifespan.

The manufacturers tell you specifically how to keep the clothes as they know best and hence the instructions should be followed.

Sweaters and Cardigans:
The thumb-rule of wool and cashmere is that they should be dry cleaned 90% of the time because the wool fibers in the sweaters will most probably swell if they are washed in water, which will eventually deform the shape of the cardigan or sweater. However, if the wash-care label of the woolen or cashmere clothes states that they can be washed, here are some simple tips that you should follow:

  • Use only detergents that are mild or are completely natural and before you immerse the clothes in the water, make sure that the detergent is completely dissolved
  • Be gentle when you are swishing the clothes in the water if you are going to do this for several minutes and rinse the clothes only in cold water; do this until the water is clear of all the detergent
  • It is important that you never hand wring the sweater or put it for a dry spin in the washing machine
  • The best way to take away the excess water is by placing the cardigan or sweater on a towel, preferably white, and blot dry. The sweater should be placed on a flat surface in an area that is well-ventilated
  • Iron the sweater/cardigan if it has wrinkles or creases after you have hand washed it. Cashmere sweaters and cardigans should be ironed with an undyed towel over it so that it does not come in contact with direct heat

Coats and Jackets: The frequency at which you wash your children’s coats totally depends on how quickly they get dirty. If your children wear them while playing in the park or at school they are bound to get dirty quickly. The dirt and dust to work like sandpaper because it will make its way into the weave of the coat causing the fabric to wear down. If this is the case wash the coats and jackets twice a month otherwise once a month is enough.

All the clothes that are in direct contact your child should be cleaned and washed regularly. It is best to hand-wash them twice a month to keep them clean and smelling fresh.
