How to Build a Strong Vocabulary of Growing Kids ?

Parents should definitely understand that before you start teaching anything big to your kids, kids need to have a better understanding of basic words for kids and their meaning.

Repetitive Exposure

A growing toddler typically needs to listen to a new word at least 4-12 times before he learns it. So, whenever you teach your kid a new word then you take note in your mind and try to use that word in your general conversation many times. Redundant exposure to the new words is the best way to build a strong vocab.

Reading Together Aloud

If your kid has started attending school or pre-school and he is able to read then you can surely encourage this habit.
Reading aloud together is surely a great way to spend a quality time together and making him learn new things.
And always consider taking the books that strike his interest more.

While you start teaching anything big like nouns then try to make them concrete i.e.try making thing visualize to them. For example: you can show them the pictures or if possible try making them touch. Other words like adjectives, you can relate them to real life examples.
For instance- the difference between the tastes by providing the foods of variable taste- spicy, sweet, sour and bitter.

Read-Say-Write

The learning will considered actual learning when your kid is able to read it, say it and write it. While your kid is reading and comes across a new word asks for its pronunciation then you should encourage your kid to repeat the word after you aloud.
Then ask him to make a note of it by writing it down somewhere.

Rhyme Time

There is no denying to the fact that kids learn rhymes and rhyming words faster. That’s why rhymes are included in their syllabus for kindergarten and in the preschool. For adding new words to their vocab this is great way e.g.- Jack is eating snack, Tina bought a ball at the mall, etc.
Or you might pick some short nursery poems to make him learn more and better.

Words with Variable Meanings

Making kids learn the words which have multiple meanings is a real challenge. Some have the same pronunciation with different spellings while others might spell the same but different meaning.
For example : Pray (solicit), Prey (hunt for food)
Lie (untrue), Lie (lie down).
