Many people get cold feet when it comes to handling a newborn. Soon-to-be-parents go crazy worrying of how things will be once a delicate new soul enters their home as well as their lives. Some people are so scared that they can’t even hold a newly born child in arms. Such anxieties and worries are bound to occur; after all it is true that a newborn demands much care and careful handling. The tiny being who has no power to help himself requires the same from others at all times for the first few years. More so,  acutely sensitive care during the first few months.

So here are some useful baby care tips to help you spend a cherish-able time with infants without worrying about harming them in any manner:-

How to hold a newborn:

The most important thing is to support the baby’s head and neck while picking him up. The baby has spots on the top of his head. So never apply pressure. Slide your hand gently under the baby’s head and with the other hold him from his bottom. Always carry the baby close to your chest for additional support.

Shoulder hold:

Your hand positioning remains the same, you simply have to make a gentle tilt and rest the baby’s head on your shoulder. You can adjust a firmer grip under his bottom by wrapping our arm round him. Keep the support of the other hand for the head and neck.

How to put the baby to sleep:

  • The babies should never be made to sleep on their tummies, not even side ways. Newborns are incapable of voluntary movements to get into comfortable postures by themselves. Also, sleeping on sides or on their belly can cause chocking as well as cause other fatal accidents.
  • The best way to put your baby to sleep is to make him lie die on his back.
  • Do not stuff there crib with toys. It could lead to sophistication, and your baby won’t be able to communicate his inconvenience. Also do not put around them too many cushions or pillows.

How to give newborn baby a bath:

  • A little hot water can cause scalding. Babies have highly sensitive skin. Do not ever use water heated to a temperature more than 36 degrees C to bathe a newborn, and between 37 to 38 degrees if your baby is a few months old.
  • Do not add any hot water once your baby is already in the bath tub.
  • While bathing a newborn, not for a second you can leave your grip over him nor move your eye away from him. They are susceptible to drowning in shallow water too. And this can happen silently.

How to change nappies:

The first rule is to start a nappy change only when everything required is handy - nappy, baby wipes, talcum powder, lotion and maybe some lukewarm water. Make your baby lie down on a clean mat or bed. Unfasten the nappy. Hold his legs up and clean the area, apply talcum and lotion. And then gently wrap around the new nappy.
