Children look forward to winter because of the holidays and the tones of fun they get to have. But winter can be very harsh on young children because if precautions are not taken properly children can get sick very quickly. Therefore as the temperature begins to drop, parents must make sure that their children have adequate protection against the common flu and cold; as it is the most widespread amongst children during the winter. There are a few things that you must do this winter to keep your child fit and healthy to enjoy the winters:

Hydrated Body

Children don’t drink water during the cold winter months as much as they would in the summer. Winter is considered a very dry season and both children and adults need to drink water to stay hydrated. Hence, have you child drink a lot of water to stay hydrated.

Soap

It is advised to change the soap you use in the winter to one that is milder as opposed to the other soaps because some soaps can leave the skin dry.

Body Oil

Children have very sensitive skin and it is very susceptible to the cold winter winds. To avoid the ill effects of the cold on the child’s skin, massage your children with either coconut or olive oil which are rich in healthy fatty acids and vitamin E. The skin absorbs the oil very easily, so it is advised to use the oil thinly and rubbing it in gently.

Moisturize

Apply moisturize so the child has a healthy glow and the skin remains soft and supple. The winter can be cruel on the skin and as mentioned a child has sensitive skin that needs to be protected from the cold elements.

Sunscreen

Children enjoy going out to play with their friends and parents don’t have any objections because it gets them to breathe the fresh air outside and soak in the winter sun. But before the go out to play make sure that you apply sunscreen on their exposed skin to protect them from the UV rays that can be harmful.

Diet

Kids need to have a healthy and balanced diet so that they may grow and develop as per their age. For this they should eat nutritious foods seasonal vegetables and fruits. Make sure that you include green vegetables that are rich in fiber, vitamins and minerals in the child’s diet.

Clothes
