Tips on how to shop clothes for kids

Baby clothes are inevitably the cutest things you can get your hand on. Shopping for kids can therefore be so much fun. You can spend hours admiring those tiny bundles of happiness craftily stitched together to adorn your little sunshine. While the markets today are flooding with a prodigious variety of clothes for little kids, selecting the right ones to dress your baby requires careful consideration. There are two things to keep in mind when you go shopping for kids. The right size selection first being the first and the other is choosing the right kind of material. Here are a few tips to guide you through:

•    Understand the sizing pattern
The size of kids’ outfits corresponds their age. For example, a size 2 dress would be a perfect fit for a 2 year old. However, you can’t simply rely on this. There are kids who grow too fast or those who have a slow growth. Make sure you know the measurements of your child. For babies under the age of one, sizes change every three months. When in doubt you should always take one size larger as rolling up the sleeves or hems could be an option but there is no alternative for a short dress.

•     Avoid Tight Elastic
Elastic is used extensively in baby clothes. it is to resist the fidgetiness of these young souls and keep the outfit in its place. But very tight elastic bands could cause great irritation and rashes too. They could also cut the circulation. It is therefore a necessity to properly check the clothes before purchasing and make sure the elastic bands are not too tight.

•    Avoid Heavy Appliqués and Sequins
Yes, those sequined dress could make your little girl look like a regal princess but on the cost of her comfort. Would you like that? Certainly not. These could turn out to be scratchy and rough for kids’ skin. Therefore stay away from them as far as possible. Still, you could make an exception when it comes to baby dresses for birthday parties. For a special occasion things can be made to work. Tug the sequins once on your own to make sure they do not come off. As for the appliqués, make sure the inner lining is real soft.

•    Study the Fabric
Before making your purchase, check labels to know what fabric is the dress made of. Kids have a more sensitive skin than ours’. Natural fabrics are best suited for kids clothing. They, however, may be a bit heavy on your pocket. Polyester/ cotton mixed fabrics can be a wise pick. They are easy to maintain and inexpensive too. Cotton clothes are soothing and comfortable, but consider the chances of slight shrinking after the first wash.

Happy shopping!!
