Winter Precautions for Children

Winter Precautions for Children

You will find that kids are always excited about winter. There are so many fun things for them to do such as playing football, cricket and badminton. These games are fun and they are so much more fun to play during the cold winter days. But you should allow your children to play outside during the winter after you have taken due caution. We have prepared a list of safety tips for you to follow to protect your children this winter.

General Precautions and Safety tips:

The first and most important tip is to never give permission to your child to play outside without supervision. If possible create a buddy system where you can ask your child and his or her friends to look after each other. Younger children below the age of 10 should only be allowed to play outside under an adult’s supervision.

  • Ensure that your kids are warm; therefore check on them from time to time
  • Young children should not play outside for long stretches and so ask them to take short breaks to have a warm drink like hot chocolate or milk
  • Keep an eye outside for the changing weather conditions and sudden drops in temperature
  • Do not let your children play outside if the temperature drops below 0°C
  • It may be a very silly thing to do or even say, but tell your kids not to put their tongues on cold metal
  • Have your children play in areas that offer a shelter that is warm and is close to where they are playing
  • The playground should also be away from water bodies, roads and fences
  • Even if the weather is cloudy, apply some sunscreen on areas of the skin that are exposed

These are some of the points that you should follow regarding the clothes your children wear this winter.

Precautions for dressing appropriately:

  • Children should be dressed in several layers of Warm Winter Clothing. If they feel hot after all the running around they do, they can take off one or more layers to feel comfortable
  • When they reach home, take off wet clothes immediately
  • Most of the body heat escapes from the head so it is advised that children should always wear a hat when they step outside
  • Children should keep their ears covered to avoid getting a frostbite
  • Mittens are a better option for small children as opposed to gloves, ensure that they wear them the whole time
  • The clothes that children wear should be Warm Winter Clothes
  • The boots must be waterproof and comfortable to wear giving them room to even wiggle their cute tiny little toes

These are some of the things that you can follow this winter season to keep your child safe. The list is not exhaustive and there are some points that we leave to your best judgment as parents.
