But don’t you forget to ensure your kids’ safety in all that hustle and bustle.

Start Navratris and every Indian household is abuzz with festive rituals. It marks the beginning of the Big Indian Festive season, and lasts until Diwali. Diwali is probably the most awaited festival in India. The festival is celebrated with great jubilation all across the country by illuminating houses and surroundings with lights and diyas, and burning crackers. And there comes the problem. However much this kind of celebration is exciting and thrilling, it is dangerous too.

Being adults we are capable of safeguarding ourselves from possible hazards, but the kids might not be. And so it becomes our responsibility to take care the the children are safe while indulging themselves in Diwali dhamaal.

Here are some safety tips:

1. Check the packing of fire-crackers. Do not compromise on the quality, buy from licensed shops.

2. Store crackers in a safe place, out of the reach of children.

3. Bursting them should be always in and open space.

4. Do not let children light them in the absence of any adult.

5. Dress them up in cotton clothes at the time of fireworks.

6. Do not dress your little girls in elaborate ethnic outfits, which are difficult to manage, especially duppattas.

7. Do not light too many diyas inside the house, children might burn themselves accidently roaming about.

8. When a bomb or cracker doesn’t burst up, do not let you child run excitedly to re-lit the dud.

9. While putting up electric lights make sure there are no naked wires.

10. Do keep a water bucket and some sand in proximity while bursting crackers.

11. Also make a handy first-aid kit to deal any unwanted burn or injury.

12. Make sure your little one keeps his heroic bravery in limits and does not light even the smallest of bombs in hand.

13. Anaar (the fountain cracker) is observed to cause the most injuries during Diwali, so be careful when your kid is lighting one.

14. Also, do not let your excited child dance in between a lighted chakri.

15. It is not just the burns you have to worry about,the noise pollution that is generated is also something to protect the kids from. So use ear-plugs for the children.

16. After the fire-cracker session is over, make sure the children wash their hands properly with soap.
