Weird Things With Newborns That Are Actually Normal

Just moments after the birth, when you’ll  have one good look at your baby, you may wonder if everything is alright with him or not. It is a result of the nervousness that is too natural when holding that delicate life in your arms for the first time ever, but also because certain things with newborns are actually unnerving. These weird things can freak out first time parents, however, may not turn out to be anything to worry about.

To save you those shocking moments, here is a small list of things with newborns which may seem weird but are actually quite normal:

Crossed Eyes

When for the first time you and your baby’s eyes will meet, you may think he has crossed-eyes. Don’t hit the panic button, for a slight wonk-eye is almost expected of newborn babies. This is because the little baby is yet to learn the techniques of focusing and gaining muscle control. Also, in very small babies the nose bridge is broad and the skin around folds such that it may cover a little of the white portions of the eye creating an illusion of crossed eyes. So, don’t worry unless such a condition continues 5-6 months after the birth too.

Being Too Hairy

Your baby may be the hairiest little being you ever beheld. But being covered with soft, fine hair all over the body is absolutely normal. ATleast he’s not born with his big mustache. Shocked? Yes, baby when inside the womb grows a long fuzzy mustache lanugo. These protective hair however, fall off at the time of birth. The little hair your baby is born with will also fall off in a few weeks themselves.

Extreme Acne

Your baby may have such extreme break-outs in the 24 hours of their life which you may not have even experienced in your depressive teenage. This is because a newborn’s skin is the most sensitive and coming into contact with the outside world for the first time ever, it is all too much to bear. So baby acne is way to common and there is nothing to get paranoid about them. These acne will clear out on their own within a few days, without any eternal application of lotions and creams.

Purplish Feet and Hands

It is more of a trouble thought to imagine your newborn turning all blue and purple. It is weird but don’t worry to see your baby’s hands and feet turn that ways when he is born. You’ve not given birth to a cold blooded vampire. It is actually quite normal for a newborn’s feet and hand look purplish in color because full oxygenation of blood hasn’t yet kick started in them and thus, the color due to inefficient circulation. As proper functioning begins the child’s feet and hands will regain the pink color soon.

Losing Weight Hours After Birth

Some people get petrified when they notice a declining change in their baby’s weight at the time of discharge. There is nothing to fret. Though, it may seem weird, but is totally normal. The logic to it is again weird but makes a lot of sense. All babies poop a lot in the first few hours after their birth. There is a lot of cleaning up needed, like the removal of dead cells. And this way, the baby loses out on that excess weight too.

However, anything concerning a child should not be taken lightly. If anything seems weird or out of order, seek help and consult a doctor. Just be aware and cautious as to when is the right time to start worrying and take some action.
