New Year Resolution for Kids

New Year Resolutions for Kids

The New Year is almost upon us and it’s time for all of us to make a resolution to better ourselves. The start of a New Year marks a new beginning for all of us and parents should encourage their children to take up a resolution for the New Year. But remember that the resolutions that children make are not similar to the ones that adults make.

The major difference between a child’s resolution and an adult’s is in their experience and understanding of various things in the world. Children lack a better judgment when it comes to particular tasks and activities like the time it will take to complete them, costs and most importantly the experience on how to complete it in the right manner so that it is accomplished properly and correctly. If these things are not addressed early on they can prove to be a challenge for the child depending on their age. Read our BabyCouture tips on how to plan and achieve a goal your kid has set for the New Year:

  • Choose a resolution that you know your child can complete easily and without being over burdened. Remember that they are still children and hence the goals and plans should be realistic. Help them out with setting reasonable and attainable promises.
  • Don’t be over-smart by having them add household chores on their list, because let us all be honest that these chores are actually something on your wish list. These things are best left for you to complete rather than your child.
  • The resolution should be appropriate to the child’s age and something which you know they can do. If the child is still adamant on adding this to his or her resolution list, ask them to break it down.
  • If your child is very impulsive and young, we recommend that the goals you set with them are completed as quickly as possible without taking too much time to achieve.
  • Encourage your child with the list and if they have any problems help them out by working with them to resolve and overcome these obstacles.
  • Lastly, in case your child is not able to accomplish their New Year resolution, encourage them by discussing all the various other things that they did achieve along the way. Talk about the problems that they might have had and how to plan for a new set of goals. Don’t let them linger to the thought that they “failed” and rather have them look at the positive side of things.
