Monster Fear

Monster Fear

Many kids have a fear of monsters and parents need to understand that denying the existence of monsters will not work. Rather take in a fun way and together with your kids formulate strategies to get rid of such monsters. But make sure you do not make it a serious problem, rather tell your kid that it is a small issue that can be resolved easily. You can talk to the monsters in strict voice, telling them to leave, or clean your kid’s cupboard with broom and trash the monster. You can even make a magic monster spray with lavender, water, glitter and glycerin. Tell your kids to spray it when they feel a monster is there. They will feel empowered and stronger!

Diminish Fear In Early Evening

Diminish Fear In Early Evening

Reduce your kid’s anxiety about monsters early in the evening by playing monster with him. Let him be a monster and you act frightened in a goofy way so he laughs over it. But don’t do this right before bed because it will keep him up. Rather plan it such that you have time before bed to calm him down through a bath and story time. He will be less anxious about bedtime then!

Relaxation Techniques

Relaxation Techniques

Some kids have trouble sleeping just like us adults and just like we resort to relaxation, teach them this technique. Music can work for some kids and others may need meditation. Teach them how to breath slowly and then how to exhale fully. They will feel less ‘on-alert’ and will be easy to put to bed!

Check On Her

Check On Her

Offer to check on her in the night, tell her you will just peep and not say anything. Once you put her to bed, come in 10 minutes to check on her. She is most likely to be waiting for your round and once she sees you, she will feel more safe. Check on her 2-3 times in a night and once you find that she is sleeping, you can stop. In a few weeks she will not be waiting for your check and then you can ease out of this habit!

Preschoolers learn easily to sleep on their own rather than toddlers. It is good you waited for teaching him this. By using some or all of these tips, you will find it much easier to put your little one in bed!
